AdF.ly Se Paisa kaise kamaye Review 2016: A Legit Way to Make Money Shortening Links

“Wow! I made some money online.” This was my reaction when I made few cents within a day using AdF.ly. It is impossible to forget that moment because it was the first time I made some money online. That motivated me and since then I have made hundreds of dollars online using many other methods. In this post I am going to present you a detailed review on AdF.ly or commonly called as Adfly. Keep reading because it may become a new online money making source for you.

Don't Miss: Top Link Shortening Websites to Make Money Online

What is AdF.ly?

So the first question that comes to your mind is “What is AdF.ly?” so let's start discussing about Adf.ly.

Adf.ly is website that pays you money every time someone clicks on your shortened Adf.ly links.
Still Confused? Let me Explain.

Adf.ly is an URL shortening service similar to Bit.ly.
You input a link on AdF.ly. For example “google.com”
AdF.ly shortens it and gives you a links “https://adf.ly/PNDe3”
You share the shortened link anywhere on the web.
Someone clicks on your link i.e. on “https://adf.ly/PNDe3”
There is twist now. Before redirecting to “google.com” adf.ly will show an ad to your visitor. He had to see the advertisement for at least 5 seconds and then he can continue to your link i.e. “google.com”.

How AdF.ly works?

However I have provided you an overview of the working of AdF.ly, there are some questions left why adf.ly pays you and how adf.ly itself make money. To make it more clear let us take an example. Think of an advertiser who wants to sell his product or promote his online business. So he want more visitors to see his business or buy his product: AdF.ly is the solution for the advertiser. Let's check out the complete working of AdF.ly:
Advertiser pays money to Adfly to show his website to visitors of any specific country or the whole world. Let’s say advertiser paid $2 for 1000 visits.
Adfly takes a cut. Let’s say Adfly takes $0.4.

Types of Links

First of all let me explain about types of ads adf.ly provides in their links.
Adf.ly provides two types of ads:

Desktop CPV

Interstitials CPV: This are CPV (Cost Per View) ads that is shown for 5 seconds. Example Link: https://adf.ly/PNDe3

Top Banner CPV: These are CPM (Cost Per Mile) banner ad shown at the top of the website URL you shortened using adf.ly. Example link: https://adf.ly/pd0fh

Mobile CPM

Interstitials CPM: This indicates the money you will get for every 1000 ad views on mobile phones that the visitor has to see for at least 5 seconds.

Top Banner CPM: This indicates the money that you will earn for every 1000 impressions of banners on mobile phones.

Unique and Raw

There are two types of views according to which you will make different amount of money.

Unique: Average amount paid for 1000 visitors in the 24-hour period.

Raw: Average amount paid on the 1st advert view for 1000 link views in the 24-hour period. In this case the views matter not visitors.

Let us take an example to understand it. Let us say that one person clicked on two of your adf.ly links within 24 hour period, this mean that you have got one unique view but two raw views. Raw views pay slightly less than unique views.

Tools on Adf.ly

Adf.ly has many features and tools which can help you to make even more money.

Mass Shrinker: Mass Shrinker is a tool which allows you to shrink up to 20 URLs at a time. It is a good tool if you want to shrink many URLs at a time.

http://adf.ly/4164324/www.google.com

Replace "www.google.com" with whatever URL you wish the user to go to if they skip the advertisement.

You do not need to even login to adf.ly to use this and your account will be credited in the same way as if you had shortened the link.

If you want the Easy Link with the Banner advertising (less money, but less intrusive):

http://adf.ly/4164324/banner/www.google.com

Note that the URLs above are my easy link URLs. You will get your own easy link URL when you will sign up for adf.ly.

How much will you earn from AdFly?

Source: AdF.ly Review 2016: A Legit Way to Make Money Shortening Links | Top Blog Money

Now the most important question is how much money can you make from Adfly? At an average Adf.ly pays you $2/1000 visits to your links. But as I said it is an average. From USA you can make as much as $9/1000 visits wile from Asian countries you may make less than a dollar for 1000 visits.

Is it low?

It might be low compared to those get rich quick scams that claims that you can make more than $1000 a day sitting at sofa. Earning real money needs patience and hard work.

I have seen people making more than $50 a day using AdFly. The only secrets are persistent and continuous effort.

How to Make Money from Adf.ly?

Best thing I like about Adfly is that even a person that do not know much about computers, internet and other tech stuffs can also make money from it. There is no specific strategy to make money from Adfly. I am going to give you some of the ideas to make money from it but it doesn’t mean that these are the only ways to make money. Be creative to make your own ways to share your links so that it reaches to the huge number of people and they click on it.

In a nutshell, a person is only going to click your links if you have something interesting or valuable to share through your links. Here are some of the places you can share your links. But before you share your links; be sure you have something people want to check out. Let’s start:

Post on forums
Most of the forums allow links in your posts. Find a trending topic that is going to be trending for few months at least (So that you can make money for months). Find forums related to that topic and sign up to them. Find something related to that topic and post on them on the forums. Keep increasing your posts solely (Note: Never spam or you will get banned from forums). You will see your earnings increasing slowly.

Comment on blogs
This is similar to the above trick. Just the difference is that this time you are posting on blogs related to your topic.

Using Social Networks
Social networks are place where people usually share links. Only you have to do is that, find some famous social networks and before posting any link shorten it with adf.ly. But you should take care that a person after seeing the advertisement and skipping the ad, should get something interesting. If he gets something junk, surely he is not going to click your links anymore in the future.

Note: Most famous social networks like facebook, twitter etc. have banned adf.ly links. Don’t worry there are other social networks which have not banned them.

Using Blog or Website
If you have a blog or a website, you can use it to make money from Adf.ly. Just change your outgoing links to adf.ly links or you can also their full page script or website entry script.

Note: I never recommend you to use adf.ly links on professional blog or website.

Check Out: What is Blogging? A Real Explanation

Refer Others
This can be proved to be the way to make most money from Adf.ly. Only you have to do is to refer your friends, relatives or anyone to join adf.ly and you will make money.

Refer Publishers and you will receive 20% of their earnings for life.
Refer Advertisers and earn 5% commission on every advertising order they make.

Have Patience
This is where the majority of people fail, they don't have patience and give up soon. Also some others think that they will earn very small amount, so what's the use? But the truth is even a millionaire starts from making cents. Slow and steady wins the race, and it applies very true for making money with Adf.ly.

A Short Video from Adf.ly

Conclusion

These are not the only ways; you can create your own ways to make even more money using adf.ly.

If your visitor likes what he get after seeing ad for 5 seconds, it worth his time or else he wasted his valuable time. So never spam adf.ly links that have nothing interesting or valuable to offer all over the web just to get clicks, or you will be called a spammer. I hope you will understand it because spamming is not only a bad practice but it can also have your account suspended at adf.ly.

In a nutshell; make adf.ly account, shorten some valuable webpage URLs and share them on the web. See money adding up in your account. Good Luck!

Note (before signing up to Adf.ly): Don't just join Adf.ly for sake of joining it. I have seen many people who sign up and think that they will get rich within an hour, doing nothing. I hope you are not that kind of person. After joining adf.ly, start sharing your links so that it can reach most number of people. Most probably you will see only cents or even less in your adf.ly dashboard but if you continue, those cents will convert to dollars and soon you will get your first payout from adf.ly.

Infolinks Se Paisa kaise kamaye ( Review with Earnings and Payment Proof 2016 )

Infolinks was the first ad network which started the concept of in text ads to overcome banner blindness and improve engagement. In this post I am presenting before you a detailed review of Infolinks from my experience. I will also be providing my earnings report and payment proof from Infolinks. So let’s start

What is Infolinks?

Infolinks is an ad network started in 2007 with the in-text advertising and later started providing many more ways to make money such as intag, infold (previously known as insearch) and inframe. I will be explaining each later. Infolinks is designed to overcome banner blindness. So, what is Banner Blindness? If you are a regular internet surfer you must be ignoring banners on websites, and this is called banner blindness. Intext ads which are contained in the text of blog or website it can’t be ignored easily. Have more questions in your mind? Don't worry, I have tried to cover almost everything about infolinks in this post. Keep Reading.

How it Works?

Infolinks is a contextual network which targets your content to display ads. Let’s see how it works
Advertisers bid for keywords to display their ads.
Infolinks scans publisher’s blog or website and displays ads for that keyword.
When user clicks on ads, publishers make money.

All the four types of ads which Infolinks provide mostly are shown according to the content of site or the keyword typed by user in search engine before visiting publisher’s site.

Types of Ads

Infolinks provides four types of ads: Intext, Infold, Intag and Inframe. Let us understand them in detail.

Intext
Intext Ads
Intext Ads

“Break from convention - advertise inside the lines”. Let us take an example to understand it. Let us say you are reading a post on FIFA World Cup 2014 and you saw a links on FIFA World Cup 2014 Tickets, I am sure you will move your mouse cursor over it, a small ad will appear. These are Intext Ads. As you can see from the given example that how much engaging these ads can be.

Infold (Previously known as Insearch)
Infold Ads
Infold Ads

“Capitalize on user intent - in the right place, at the right time”. Infold only serves advertisements when users visit your site via search engines. Infold looks for the keyword visitor has typed in search engine and display advertisements based on that keyword. When visitor enters your site, after few seconds a layer ad will appear from the bottom of their computer screens. There is a close button which can be used to close the advertisement. Since Infold ads are related to visitor’s queries there is high chance that the ad will provide what user wants increasing Click Through Rate and eventually your earnings. However, it can also be frustrating for your visitors.

Intag
Intag Ads
Intag Ads

“Good-looking and smart, too - InTag is the ultimate tag cloud”. Intag scans your website/blog content and find the most valuable keywords and display the keywords in attractive tag cloud. If it does not find right keywords in your content, it shows closely related keywords relates to your content. You can customize the design and layout of Intag advertisements to match your and your site’s need.

Inframe
Inframe Ads
Inframe Ads

“Broaden your advertising horizon - go beyond the frame”. Inframe advertisements are only displayed if there are unused screen margins left where ads can be shown. It also uses the site’s context to show relevant ads. It can increase your revenue but I do not recommend you to turn it 'on' as it can be very obtrusive for your site visitors.

To view demo ads yourself visit: http://www.infolinks.com/publishers/demo

Infolinks Payment Options

Infolinks Pyment Options and Threshold are:
Paypal - $50
eCheck - $50
ACH (Only for U.S. Bank Accounts)- $50
Payoneer - $50
Bank Wire Transfer - $100
Western Union - $100

Infolinks is Net 45. This means that Infolinks will send payment within 45 days of the end of the month in which you reached the threshold.

Infolinks Payment Proof

Infolinks is a legit site to prove it I have my payment proof. Infolinks paid me $249.91 via Paypal within 30 days of the end of the month (faster than they say). Here is the screenshot of my payment:

Infolinks Payment Proof
Infolinks Payment Proof

Infolinks Earnings

After using few of the famous intext ad network I am feeling safe to conclude that infolinks gives you the highest eCPM possible. Below is my weekly Infolinks earnings screenhot:

Infolinks Weekly Earnings
Infolinks Weekly Earnings

I know many of you are thinking it’s very low but before you come to the conclusion, read out some of the reasons why it is low:
The blog from which money is made is Entertainment based blog considered as the lowest paying niche.
Major visitors were from Asian countries which are again low paying.
I have some of my buddies getting huge eCPMs on high paying niches and countries crossing $20 sometimes. If you are an adsense publisher then you may not expect it to make more money than adsense but it can considerably increase your revenues.

Infolinks Pros and Cons

Pros
Signing up is easy and just takes a minute.
Interface is simple and wesite is easy to use
Approval process takes a day or two.
Approve all sites which have sufficient content. They do not allow content that in their opinion can be deemed as negative in nature, illegal or offensive in any way.
Subdomain are also accepted i.e. .blogspot.com or .wordpress.com are also eligible for infolinks.
You have full control over the types of ads and quantity of ads displayed in your site.
You can customize infolinks ads to fit the look and feel of your site.
Only one time code integration is required after that you can directly customize your ads from your infolinks account.
Inflolinks shows ads related to visitor’s query or site’s content which results in high CTR and more money.
They have advertisers for more than 128 countries. So you will be making money from 99% of your visitors.
Their eCPM is good and ranges anywhere between $0.40 and $20.
They provide many payment options.
Minimum payout is $50 which is good compared to Adsense which has $100.
Their support is good.

Cons
Many Intext Ads can harm your site. Visitors will dislike them and they also make your site non user friendly.
Infold and Inframe ads can be obtrusive for your visitors.
Earnings can be low in certain niches and countries.
Earnings stats are quite basic and did not give you knowledge about number of clicks and countries from which impressions/clicks are made.

How to Make Money from Infolinks

Making money from Infolinks is easy just make an account add your site, wait for approval and add the code provided to your website and then customize your ads to match your site. I am giving some of the tips to increase your infolinks revenue.
As I am saying again and again, to make most money from Infolinks, Intext and Intag ads should match the look of your website or blog. It is the most important thing to do.
Use dotted links instead of double lined links for your intext ads. It can boost your earnings significantly and also dotted intext ad look better than double lined ads.
Restrict number of intext ads according to your content. If your posts are generally descriptive you can use 12 intext ads but if your content is less, I recommend you to have intext ads accordingly.
Place Intag ads smartly. Placing Intag ads to the most active part of your site can boost your earnings.
Use high paying keyword in your posts. If there will be high paying keywords in your post, intext ads will also be high paying, increasing your earnings considerably. However never stuff keyword for that.
A Suggestion: If you are a professional blogger you should not use inframe ads because they are quite distractive. Despite of the fact that infolinks have provided a close button to the ads they can shoot your visitors away. Infold can also be intrusive for your visitors.

What’s Next
By now you must have decided whether you want to join infolinks or not. If you have decided to join you can simply head over infolinks.com. If you are searching for best intext ad network then your search completes here as in my opinion infolinks is the best intext ad network currently.

How To Protect Your WordPress Blog From Hackers

Has your blog ever been hacked?

If so, then you understand how important it is to have security measures implemented.

In today’s episode, I discuss WordPress security and share how to protect your blog from hackers.

Inside This Episode
There’s something I REALLY hate about the internet – Hackers.

There have been a few times in my blogging experience where I woke up to a hacked blog.

It has ranged from simply hackings that resulted in links added to my blog in random places, to hackers taking my entire blog down.

This has forced me to study WordPress security a bit, to reduce the chances of my blog getting hacked in the future. Here are some steps you can take (from simple to complex).

Be proactive about updates
The WordPress community is a very proactive community. Whenever there’s a security breach/loophole that we need to be aware of, that info is quickly shared.

Fortunately, WordPress is also very proactive with updating WordPress to take care of those fixes.

In the past, I used to tell people not to update WordPress whenever there’s a new update because it can cause stuff to break. However, WordPress seems to have gotten better with updates.

Now I recommend that bloggers be proactive with updates, both of WordPress and plugins.

passwordsUse a unique and complex password
One of the types of attacks that’s often issued on WordPress is called a brute force attack. In short, this is when a hacker systematically guesses a bunch of different passwords until they get the right one.

Once they are able to log into your WordPress admin area, or your hosting control panel, they are able to do some serious damage.

Make sure you are using unique, complex passwords for every relevant account. I would even recommend using a service like Dashlane to generate complex passwords and to keep track of all of your passwords for all of your accounts.

Use the All In One WP Security Plugin
securityThe All In One WP Security plugin is the best security plugin for WordPress. It walks you through a series of steps to take to make your WordPress installation stronger and then grades you on how protected you are.

Here are some examples of what it helps you to do:

Enable brute-force protection.
Change your usernames if you’re using a common one (i.e. admin).
Automatically block IP Addresses if there are multiple unsuccessful logins from that IP.
Change your database prefixes
Much more
If you go through most of the steps it walks you through, you will have a WordPress blog that is less susceptible to hacking.

Upgrade to managed hosting
HostingIf you’re at a point where you’re getting significant traffic, it might be time to consider upgrading your hosting.

With shared hosting, you have less control over your server, because it’s shared with hundreds, if not thousands of other sites.

By upgrading to a managed VPS or dedicated server, you have tech people monitoring your server and making the necessary changes that are needed.

There have been a few occasions where one of my sites was under attack. I submit a ticket, and they make the changes to the server that’s necessary to block the attack.

What exactly did they do? I don’t know, and I don’t care. All I care about is that my site is protected.

Have a reliable backup system
serverHere’s the truth – You can do everything I recommend and have a solid security system in place. Unfortunately, hackers are often quite smart, and can sometimes get around even the toughest of security systems.

In the event that something goes wrong and you are hacked, I highly recommend for you to have a solid backup system in place.

Depending on your host, this might already be taken care of. However, I still recommend that you have a WordPress backup system installed.

I use Backup Buddy, and another alternative is VaultPress. They basically accomplish the same thing – they provide an easy backup solution for your WordPress blog. However, VaultPress is a little easier to use, especially if you’re not a techy person. I use Backup Buddy because my tech team provides it as a service.

As an additional backup, I also write all my content in Google Drive. That’s automatically backed up to the cloud

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR BLOG FROM HACKERS

Your blog is one of the most important things in the world to you. It is the way that you communicate with the outside world, share your passions, and potentially even make your income.

There are other people out there who do not feel the same way.

These hackers want to take your blog and use it for profit by either spamming ad-filled posts on your blog or using your subscriber lists for their criminal purposes.

If your blog is taken over by a hacker, not only might you lose your blog, you might lose some of your readership and your reputation. It is worth any inconvenience to make sure this doesn’t happen.

The Basics

What goes for the rest of the internet doesn’t change for your blog. Many of the threats to your computer can affect your blog as well, so you have to maintain a constant vigilance on both fronts. Know these basics and know them well.

Passwords and Usernames

While it may be convenient for you to have a simple password such as “Password123” or something similar, hackers will be able to crack such a password in five minutes on a slow day. You need something better with different types of characters, no words in the dictionary, and enough characters to keep the number of possibilities high (at least 10). Once you commit a good one to memory, you won’t care so much about the hassle, and it will get easier to remember a new one each time you change it.

If you are looking for some examples of what a good password looks like, check out the listed examples below:

Typ561Tesert?
M0O0Nrare!
J0hnsm1TH
!Pra531cTiCal
As for your username, this naturally won’t be as well protected, but there are steps you can take. The biggest one is not using “Admin” as your username.

Many different exploits and attacks hackers use will start on the premise that Admin is a username or profile name on the website, so if you’re using it you’ve made their job a lot easier. Other than this, just make sure not to hand your username out to everyone. Keep it as safe as your password.

Security Software

Your computer is linked to your blog, and there is nothing you can do to change that. If your computer is attacked, consider your blog attacked as well. Any cookies or saved passwords on your device could be stolen and used to gain access to your blog.

You need security software on all of your devices, and you need to make sure it is updated consistently. There are both free programs and premium programs available. Some of the better free products include Panda Free Antivirus, AVG Free Antivirus, and Avira. Some of the best premium programs and brands include Norton, McAfee, and Kaspersky Total Security.

Each have their benefits and disadvantages (for example, Kaspersky is the most expensive, but has every feature you could want), and you will have to decide what is in your budget and most compatible with your needs. Consider it an investment in your blog’s survival.

Email Security

Where your blog is concerned, your email security is of equal importance to your general computer security. If a hacker manages to get into your email account, they can pretty easily find your password and/or your username. This is in addition to the many other problems you will have to deal with when your email is hacked (such as potential identity theft).

This is why your email should be the most protected account you have. If you are particularly cautious, you will want to create a separate email for blogging purposes. You can also use it as a separate contact point for readers so you can more easily organize your emails. A second email address is free and easy to start, so there is no disadvantage to setting one up (other than time).

In addition to this, you will want a strong password (see the tips outlined earlier). Your email account might also have other verification options such as a security image or security question you have to answer whenever you log in on a new device. Take any and all of these options, and note that you don’t have to share your email with everyone you meet.

Platforms, Tools, and Plugins

A strong webpage is your first line of defense against potential hackers. Hackers aren’t necessarily lazy, but they are opportunistic and will attack the weakest blog they see. If your blog looks dated, it’s security is probably dated, too. Try to think how a predator thinks, and then take measures that will ward them off. Try to do this from a holistic viewpoint, taking into consideration the platform, the base blog, and any plugins you have installed.

Security Tools and Add-ons

Most blogging platforms, WordPress especially among them, have a lot of tools and plugins available to users in order to make your website more secure. Let us take a look at some of the most popular and useful ones:

Acunetix WP Security Scan is one of the first plugins you should download for your blog. Once activated, it will scan your blog and design for any potential security holes and then recommend fixes for you. It is continually improving and is a great introduction to WordPress security.
WordFence is likely the most popular and well-known of all the plugins for WordPress right now. The plugin scans the coding of your website, then optimizes your security and allegedly makes it up to fifty times faster. It has some of the best blocking features (you can block entire networks), will scan for both common and not-so-common holes and leaks, and has a firewall. There is a premium option that is great, but the free option is more than enough to protect your blog from most threats.
Sucuri Security is a plugin from a company that specializes in auditing and internet security. It will incorporate many different blacklist engines onto your blog to protect it, and it has a ton of monitoring features available so you can know every last thing about the security and activity on your site. It is a fantastic all-around security application.
Brute Force Login Protection is probably your best bet if you are being targeted with a botnet attack or, as the name suggests, a brute force attack. Since most of these types of attacks are automated, you need a good level of protection that will work automatically for you, and this plugin will block the IP address of a hacker who tries to log in too many times. You can even get an email when this happens so that you are aware of the frequency of attacks on your site.
Whatever security plugins you choose, be sure to research them thoroughly. Many options are either out of date or malware in disguise and will give you a false sense of security. In the worst case scenario, you could even be giving hackers a front door method into attacking your blog. Doing your homework will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Tip from Kevin: Stick to plugins found in the official WordPress directory. You’ll be able to see when a plugin was last updated, whether it’s compatible with the latest version of WordPress, how often its developers answer “support” questions, and the star rating other users have given it. Plus, all the plugins are free. I like free.
A final tip regarding this is to take an hour or so every few months to review any applications you might be using on your blog. If they are outdated, don’t hesitate to replace them. Cybersecurity evolves too quickly to be loyal to something that no longer works.

Use the Latest Version

If you are using WordPress or another hosting service which has multiple versions, make sure you are using the most recent one available. Hackers find a lot more security holes and problems in older versions of blogging platforms, and the hosts most likely do not support them nearly as much at their latest product.

If you can upgrade, do it now. There are few disadvantages to upgrading after the first month (where they get the bugs out), and you can take advantage of the other features offered.

Protecting Your Blog on the Go

Many bloggers love to travel or work from outside the home, and this is a great thing. It allows for new perspectives and a faster, more consistent rate of production. However, there are many risks while blogging on the go, and you need to be prepared for them with the right knowledge and the right tools.

Public Networks

When it comes to internet security in general, public networks are your worst enemy and a hacker’s best friend. While they are useful to many people who want to browse the internet for free, most people do not know the inherent lack of security many of them have.

The biggest problem with a public network is that it is really easy for anyone to intercept your data uploaded or downloaded on the network. Think of your computer as a broadcast tower. Anyone with a receiver and the knowledge to use it can pick up the signal. Unfortunately, the receivers aren’t expensive, and they’re pretty easy for even novice hackers to use.

When your data is picked up in this manner, it can easily be used against you. Try to imagine if your passwords and usernames were just broadcast unencrypted for someone to pick up. If you log in without protection, that is what will happen. Heaven forbid you try online banking or blog-related financial transactions.

Use a VPN

The best way to counter the problems of public networks is to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to defend yourself. What a VPN will do is connect your device via an encrypted connection to another server offsite. This connection can act as a tunnel and will mask your IP address, which will allow you a maximum level of security and privacy. Hackers won’t be able to know anything, even on a public network.

There are many different VPNs out there, and many of them are specialized. Doing some research on the subject will help you find out which to use to ward off hackers on public networks as well as stay private. If you want a decent one, you will have to pay a subscription fee, but it is well worth it compared to the questionable free ones out on the market.

If you travel to other countries or have to access sensitive data, then another important thing about VPNs should be noted. The fact they mask IP addresses and make it appear as if you are browsing in a different country means that you can bypass government censorship if you are in a restrictive country. This is necessary for bloggers who are reporting on risky subjects.

Secure Your Smartphone

If you are travelling or even walking around town, you should make sure your smartphone is on you at all times and you can feel it. There is a huge market for stolen smartphones, and pickpockets love to make profits off of them.

Your smartphone is likely connected to your blog, so if your smartphone gets stolen you need to make changing your password on it one of your first priorities. If a smartphone thief gets a blog to sell in addition to a new phone, you’ll have one more problem on your hands.

If you are worried about travelling with your smartphone, try leaving it in a safe place in the hotel if you don’t think you are going to need it, or place it on your person in a place a pickpocket won’t try to reach. One popular measure is to attach your smartphone to an arm strap that people like to use when working out and then wearing something over it.

Also, try to have some sort of verification measure set up on your phone so that not just anyone can open it. This can take the form of a passcode (that isn’t “1111”), a fingerprint verification, a voice command, or something else. Check to see what options your phone has available and pick the one that fits you and is the most secure.

Conclusion

To review, there are a lot of threats out there, but there are an equal number of defenses. You need to maintain an active and current website, have an adaptable and strong defense for all of your technology, and be even more wary when travelling.

The final and best tip is to simply use common sense when using your blog. If something doesn’t look or sound right, don’t get involved. Check out any inconsistencies immediately. Don’t trust anyone.

Thank you for reading. I hope you have a better knowledge of the ways your blog is vulnerable and the ways you can protect yourself from hackers.

12 Ways To Prevent Your WordPress Blog From Being Hacked

prevent wordpress hack
There are over 5 million results in google for the keyword “prevent wordpress hack“. Everyone has their own opinion and I dont think all of these posts are updated frequently. It’s been a while I have posted here. If you have been following me on my twitter then you should know what I have been up to. First, here are few things you should know- I have made several changes to this blog.

Recently, some of my blogs were hacked. It was funny how the index file had an image of a smurf showing the middle finger with a text saying “where’s your security?” I was glad the hacker left his email address so I could thank him for mocking the security of my blogs and so, I did. The amazing part- This guy didn’t even touch the database; he didn’t even inject any shit virus. I felt it was weird but after checking out each files, I found they were all clean.

I was so involved in other projects that I didn’t pay much attention to security which is actually the most important thing here. If this dude didn’t breach my security, I wouldn’t have known it was vulnerable and hence wouldn’t have bothered to take action. Whatever it is, I have sent him a “Thank You” Note 😉

I have removed some shitty plugins, transferred to HostGator, tweaked codes and more…Today, I have decided to write a post on how I did what I did- that is, strengthen the security of my blog to keep off hackers and all creepy people. I will have a video tutorial created for this later this month but for now, check this out. Some basic tweaks can help protect all your hard earned content. Check out the following tips to prevent wordpress hack.

14 Tips To Prevent WordPress Hack

1. Backup
This is the first step and the most important. Before you plan on making any changes, make sure you backup your entire DB. You can do this manually or use an available plugin. I recommend backup buddy which backs up your entire wordpress blog. Unlike free plugins which only backup your database, backup buddy exports your entire database with images, files and whatever you have in your blog’s content folder- Pretty sweeet!

2. Update WordPress Version
Second crucial step after backing up your blog is to update it to the latest version. You should always make sure that your blog’s version is up to date. WordPress team creates patches to help fix security holes. Follow wordpress feed to find out about the latest updates or you could simply login to your admin.

I would also recommend that you follow WordPress Development and BlogSecurity as they will inform you whenever a new patch/fix is released.

3. Change your Login/Password
The default wordpress login is “admin” and most hackers know that. We should change this to something else that would be difficult to guess. Something like “rogers12” or “donhoe2” is good examples. The best thing to do is delete the default admin and create a new custom login.

I suggest that you use strong passwords which include upper/lower keys, numbers and symbols. Something like “rockSTAR19!@” or “Anabel2@!” is a great example of a strong password.

Most hackers try to brute force the password so if your password is really strong as I mentioned earlier, you should be fine.

Do not use birth days, names, pet names or hobbies as passwords. People who are close to you know a little more about you; you don’t want any wild guesses :)
4. WordPress Keys in wp-config.php
I didn’t know much about wordpress keys but it is another important security measure. These keys work as salts for WordPress cookies thus, ensuring better encryption of user data.

Use the WordPress Key Generator to generate these keys. Now open up your wp-config.php, find the lines that look like below and simply replace with the generated ones:

define(‘AUTH_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘SECURE_AUTH_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘LOGGED_IN_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘NONCE_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);

Save and you are done!

5. Install WP Security Scan

Wp Security Scan

This plugin is the real deal. It’s simple and automates stuff. It will scan your wordpress blog for vulnerabilities and inform you if it finds any malicious codes etc. If the texts are in green in the admin panel then you should be good. However, they will not just be green; sometimes you have to make them :). And I will tell you how.

6. Change Table Prefix
How to Change WordPress Table Prefix using Wp Scan

The default table prefix for wordpress is wp_ . I know that, you know it and I am sure the hacker does too. SQL Injection attacks are easier with the default table prefix because it is easier to guess. A good prefix would be “mashjg23_” or “sasdoe265_”. Changing your database table prefix is highly recommended and you can do this in two ways. The manual way requires some work and is not suitable for newbie; here’s when WP Security Scan Plugin makes your work much easier. It has a tab called “Database”. Once you are in it, you have the option to rename your entire table prefix to something that is tough to guess. Do this and you will be a step closer to strengthening your blog’s security.

DB Password: How strong is your database password? Both your wordpress login password and database password should be strong. Include upper/lower keys, numbers and symbols.
7. Prevent WordPress Hack by Blocking Search Engine Spiders from Indexing the Admin Section
Search engine spiders crawl over your entire blog and index every content unless they are told not to do so. We do not want to index the admin section as it contains all the sensitive information. The easiest way to prevent the crawlers from indexing the admin directory, is to create a robots.txt file in your root directory. Then place the following code in the file:

#
User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin
Disallow: /wp-admin
Disallow: /wp-includes
Disallow: /wp-content/plugins/
Disallow: /wp-content/cache/
Disallow: /wp-content/themes/
Disallow: */trackback/
Disallow: */feed/
Disallow: /*/feed/rss/$
Disallow: /category/*

8. .htaccess Hacks
.htaccess (hypertext access) is the default name of directory-level configuration files that allow for decentralized management of configuration when placed inside the web tree. .htaccess files are often used to specify the security restrictions for the particular directory. This is not an exact tip that falls under the list but you should know about .htaccess because you can do a lot with it to prevent wordpress hack. I am not going to get in depth for this term but I found out some sweet .htaccess hacks which can tighten your wordpress security. See them below

9. Protect your .htaccess
After tweaking your .htaccess to protect your blog from hackers, you cannot simply leave the .htaccess open itself to attacks. The hack below prevents external access to any file with .hta . Simply place the code in your domain’s root .htaccess file.

# STRONG HTACCESS PROTECTION

order allow,deny
deny from all
satisfy all

10. No Directory Browsing
Its not a good idea to allow your visitors to browse through your entire directory. This is an easy way to find out about directory structures and this makes it easier for hackers to lookout for security holes.

In order to stop this, simply add the piece of 2 lines in your .htaccess in the root directory of your WordPress blog.

# disable directory browsing
Options All -Indexes

11. Secure wp-config.php
Wp-config.php is important because it contains all the sensitive data and configuration of your blog and therefore we must secure it through .htaccess. Simply adding the code below to the .htaccess file in the root directory can do the trick

# protect wp-config.php

Order deny,allow
Deny from all

The code denies access to the wp-config.php file to everyone (including me :()

12. Limit Access to the Wp-Content Directory
Wp-content contains everything. This is a very important folder and you should secure it. You don’t want users to browse and get access to unwanted/other data. Users should be only able to view and access certain file types like images (jpg, gif, png), Javascript, css and XML.

Place the code below in the .htaccess file within the wp-content folder (not the root).

Order deny,allow
Deny from all

Allow from all

13. Protect WordPress Admin Files
Wp-admin should be accessed only by you and your fellow bloggers (if any). You may use .htaccess to restrict access and allow only specific IP addresses to this directory.

If you have static IP address and you always blog from your computer, then this can be a good option for you. However, if you run a multiple user blog then either you can opt out from this or you can allow access from a range of IPs. You can refer to Apache’s documentation on mod_access for complete instruction on how to set this up.

Copy and paste the code below to the .htaccess in wp-admin folder (not root folder)

# deny access to wp admin
order deny,allow
allow from xx.xx.xx.xx # This is your static IP
deny from all

The above code will prevent browser access to any file in these directories other than “xx.xx.xx.xx” which should be your static IP address.

There is another way you could restrict access to the directory and that is by using a password in the .htaccess. I am planning to write a detailed .htacess hack where I will include all of these.

14. Prevent script injection
I found this code on wprecipes and it works like a charm. Now you can protect your WordPress blog from script injection, and unwanted modification of _REQUEST and/or GLOBALS.

Simple copy and paste the code below to your .htaccess in the root

# protect from sql injection
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (\<|%3C).*script.*(\>|%3E) [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} GLOBALS(=|\[|\%[0-9A-Z]{0,2}) [OR]
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} _REQUEST(=|\[|\%[0-9A-Z]{0,2})
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php [F,L]

Bonus
Safe file permission for WordPress blog

Take a note at the files permission. Wp Security scan shows this in a nice way. Browse the specific files on your root using your favorite ftp client and Chmod the files if required.

Last but not the least; you can install WordPress Firewall 2 which actually protects your blog from malicious hackers. It blocks the attempts of the hacker and notifies you when abused. Only the negative point of this plug-in is, it sometimes even blocks our action. This can really get annoying and I do not really recommend this plug-in unless you have SUPER Hackers and bots screwing up your blog. Stick with the .htaccess hacks since they do the job pretty well and your blog should be just fine.
